2015/2016 New Flyer XD60 Xcelsior: The New Breed of Buses!

Seven new state-of-the-art buses equipped with free Wi-Fi and USB charging ports will run on the Q10 Lefferts Blvd bus route, and more buses will be placed into service this summer on local routes in southeast Queens, Q111, Q113, and the Q114 Guy R. Brewer Blvd bus line. This is only the initial push of 75 buses to be placed into service this year and beyond that not only have a new look and feel, but will transform and modernize the MTA fleet to meet the growing demands of the 21st century.  The MTA will add 2,042 new hi-tech buses to its fleet over the next five years. The new buses will replace nearly 40 percent of the MTA's current fleet and represent a $1.5 billion investment of Capital Program resources. From 35 to 55 USB ports are conveniently located throughout each bus. A pilot program to install digital information screens on 200 buses also will begin this year, providing customers with updated travel information including available transfers at upcoming stops, weather, and other service information. The bus fleet redesign and these hi-tech amenities will be significant and noticeable to the 2.5 million customers who depend on our buses every day. New buses are also planned for routes serving New York City’s other boroughs by the end of 2017, including: 70 in Brooklyn, 209 buses in the Bronx, and 18 in Manhattan. The remaining new buses will be assigned to various routes throughout the five boroughs from 2018 to 2020. Prior to entering service, the New Breed Of Buses went into non-revenue testing. Before the the articulated bus conversion, the southeast Queens local bus routes (Q111/Q113/Q114) were using the classic 40-foot standard, 2007 Orion VII 2nd Generation buses. The non-artic Q110 & Q112 as well as the College Point routes Q25/Q34/Q65 were in the video, too. On the other hand, the Q10 already had bus #s 5364 to 5374 delivered with no new wrapped scheme. Both of the New Flyers ran on the Q10  route at the same time, classic D60HF & newly XD60.  All of this wouldn't be a reality without the bus that started it all, #5364. In Spring and Summer 2016, 75 of these newbies were delivered to JFK Depot (#5364-#5391) & Baisely Park Depot (#5392-5438), respectively. In October 2016, bus #5987 (Casey Stengel-ex-Flushing) made its debut on the Q44 + SelectBusService operating towards Jamaica, Queens and West Farms Square-Bronx Zoo. Its the new breed bus for the NYCT division and one of the 139 buses to be delivered in 2017. For more Transportation Hub, please subscribe to my channel.
